Birthday Gift

23 Jun 15.

I left twenties.. Stepped in Thirty club.
I felt so dry.. Since Family not around.
Before sleep and after waking up,
I sat numb, even without anyone to stare.

But, when I flipped the cover,
The green icon gave a smile.
I put my finger on his face,
And he gave me this gift.

The gift from my gedies,
From around the world,
I felt so special and loved.
Thank you friends, without you

This would be a bad b'day.

shubhanidra

നമ്മുടെ മാതാ-പിതാ-ഗുരു ജനങ്ങളെ പഠിപ്പിച്ചില്ലേ;

Take Off

PROLOGUE :
The evergreen grass bed became black. Everywhere it was silence, surprise, tears and ash. ‘Who was the pilot?’ A lady asked me. Before I could answer, another lady came shouting her sorrow, ‘These people made life horrible here. See, they burnt it all into ashes and I breathe this.’ I ignored the first lady as I couldn’t face her eyes. But I wanted to answer the other.

THE DAY

“Hey Buddy, get up. Have this tea.’ It was Kiran.

He is my close friend. We are class mates and glass mates. He co-piloted me everytime when I took off boozy. Amazingly, this was first time he brought me a tea and this day could not end eventless, should not.

“Oh Damn! Where is the marshaller?” I gazed around.

“Friend, you are getting late to close up on duty.” He said lighting up a Gold Flake Kings.

I saw my dreams fuming away in that smoke. I grabbed the kings and rushed to toilet. The day rose pleasant. I did my preparations, mentally it is necessary, for duty and started walking towards my department. All the way to my duty place, I walked visualising post interval session of my dreams. I was fighting a war with my aircraft and I continued the fight.

I was the junior most crew of ‘Crash & Salvage Team’ of that day. Our duty was to assist in runway clearance and giving first aid to aircraft and aircrew in case of any emergency landing or crash landing. The duty team starts their day with mustering of tools in Crash & Salvage van and ensuring the operational readiness of crane. Being junior most, it was my call of duty. While doing the mustering, I noticed two Sea Harrier FRS 51 fighters lying on dispersal and was being prepared for a sortie. I assumed myself sitting in the cockpit, dream continued. I took off, headed to enemies; I hit them like Arnold did in ‘True Lies’.

My horoscope says to stay away as much as possible from driving two wheelers and four wheelers to be safe. But I was sure; the astrologer was mentioning any vehicle, though he told only 2-4 wheelers. In that case, I cannot be a pilot, and I don’t regret for not being. The dreams are forgiven with fake excuses. Dreams! My horror-scope never let me finish a sortie in dreams too, like I am conspiring an anti-natural thing. My dream was interrupted again, this time I am detailed for collecting Lunch for duty party.

I collected lunch and I had an hour with me to rest. I moved to our barrack balcony and rang up my darling. I could see the runway and two Sea Harriers roaring at the end of runway for a race. Her mobile was ringing and I wanted her to pick up the call before takeoff. I wanted to tell her about aircraft, about what I am and I wanted to show her that I know something interesting that she even couldn’t imagine. All of a sudden, earth stood still, everywhere flames and fumes apparition.

The race was abandoned. One tiger lost his path. A Sea Harrier piloted by Lt Cdr HPS Pannu failed two attempts to take off and was on third try. He might have never thought that the try would be the last of his life. The aircraft failed to get thrust and lift. It took away the arrestor barrier, boundary wall and
crossed the civil road and burst out on the grass bed. The whole path the aircraft moved was put on fire due suspected fuel leakage. Everything became ash in a second.

I ran to the crash scene, but there was nothing left of either aircraft or pilot other than exhaust nozzles. I became stagnant with un-awareness of the taste of emotions flowing out. Loss of life or loss to nation; whatever it was, it was big. Our nation spends millions to buy and maintain such a tremendous aircraft as well as to train a pilot. Once a person is chose to become a pilot, the nation impeccably puts in everything to mould those immortal gods with wings. Here we lost one; my eyes witnessed it.

My eyes won’t dream again.

This bereaved a lady, who was chosen to be a Goddess. I don’t recognize her; she might be the lady who asked me the name of pilot. I understand her. But how was I supposed to reply to the second one. I have a few questions to her. We, soldiers, sweat out every moment in peace to bleed our, nation’s, enemies in war. Every training and every operation we took as real, to face a real war. What you want us to do? To train in desserts only; to fly in simulators only! Why don’t you, sister, understand that we sacrificed a civil colour ful life like yours to become a weapon of our nation to safe guard you, your children and your family? We sharp our teeth through out the year to keep smile on your children’s face. We have a family, someone like you, at our home. Why don’t you think about them? Every night you sleep blissfully, have you ever imagined that we are awake? Are we a nuisance for you? Had we made your life horrible?

She is just a one who expressed, though un-knowingly. She represents a crowd. I too belong to a crowd, who lives for the other. Who will answer me? Or do you have more to express!

A Soul Market

Since we forecasted our take off to Pune; I was hearing about the Budhwarpett, a
street of call girls, where human body sold at a bread rate; where men guzzle feminine
blood; a red street at the heart of Pune city. When I landed at Pune, I saw a direct pick
up cab waiting outside to Budhwarpett, be-seated already by my friends. Also I used to
hear about the place from my colleagues who came before me at Pune. On the same
evening, the very first, four of us planned to take a visit there. The visit actually didn’t
mean ‘just a visit’ but to have some ‘relax’ at a fixed rate of Hundred and fifty rupees
only or cheaper. Is sex that cheap? May be or may we didn’t know the price of life and
life’s most beautiful thing.

The cab took us to the place where my friends asked to. My heartbeats were
very high as I was excited about what I will see there. Two of my friends were going like
to win a challenge, a deadly challenge. The previous night they went taking a bucket of
Vodka and both failed to complete the mission, to erect or ejaculate. So that day
everybody was with dry stomach and was intended to achieve it. The moment we
reached, both the guys vanished with their ‘Partners of the night’. Will they achieve it
tonight? Don’t know but they should.

I wondered seeing the place, ‘The Market of Whores’. Every girl over there was
made up, to attract devils, her customer, with rose powders and deep red lipsticks.
Years ago, they also might have dreamed of preparing in bridal wear, or some might
have been once or may more. But the fate played such a game with them and they are
now making up for a days food. They now wait for a customer where once they waited
for groom, a good life partner. Every one of them had their own heart melting story, but
what we got to do with that? We were not there for an emotional drama. We needed
was only a sex, a cheap sex.

I and Rahul kept on walking in the street searching a good looking girl to spend
the night, to say some un-said naughty tales of Aesop. I don’t know, why it happened,
may be because I believe ‘nothing happens without a reason’; my mind took a U-turn
towards the dark face of my country; may be after being tired of searching. Thereafter I
saw a community in my country who were alive with lifeless hearts; or preserved; or
froze; or lost; or stolen; or broke. For them, in their eyes and life, the entire world is bad,
bad is good for their stomach and every male is a cheat; but whom they have to please
every time is the same cheats, life’s irony. Do they have the right to live? Or why should
they live? Is the life so precious? I asked myself.

It took a long time to find a satisfying answer. They were there as prostitutes
because of a wrong choice or as a part of life’s game, fate. Certainly they were like us
once, but something somewhere went wrong and they failed to take a right decision or
someone like us didn’t let them and gradually they got directed under red lights. Now
they are professionally in to it and saving our country from a lot of stuffs which are out of
forbidden lines. The place we call a red street, prohibited, is a core of attraction. Every
male know it, some remains satisfied or disciplined by restricting himself in life. Others
atleast once in a lifetime might have thought of these fairies. They opted a cheap night
than neighbour’s wife or daughter. They still had a family life, when wives failed to
satisfy. They paid these self-sellers to avoid doing rapes. This control of nature made
other women to walk on roads, to land in moon, to fly fighters, to lead wars, to rule
nations and to care their children. We can’t count how many housewives and parents
are eating the fruit of their service. And it’s scary to see a woman looking at a prostitute.
What she might not know is her husband’s Hundred rupee note was there in that
prostitute’s purse. We could find that ladies being contempt every time, helplessly. No
prostitute ever got any medal for social work, because every child hears them as sex
workers since birth, and sex work is not social work in any way; sex is fun, just fun. No
medals for fun.

So, they certainly have the right to live may be than us because we need them,
every women need them.

We never respect them and also abuses. Men plead them to reduce the rates
and to co-operate in bed. How tough is nature’s law sometimes! Do you respect a
prostitute? If not, don’t abuse them at least.

But my friend did, he did love a prostitute. He loved the smile of Muskaan, a low
rated prostitute. He respected her. He took her out to peaceful places, sat with her and
talked a lot. He paid her much and they kept sending SMSs, so romantic ones. Both
were very happy on each others company. In result you know, what we did? We made
fun of him. For such deeds the society where we live always made fun, after all it’s a
custom.

Amidst the way, I saw a ‘mother’ playing with her small child. It touched me so
deep. I stood there watching and bought a mango juice for that child, Anju. Anju was six
months old. The lady introduced herself as the mother of the child. Everybody out there
was Anju’s mother, the mothers forbidden from the normal life, being a wife of someone
or being a mother of a child with a father. So Anju was a child of all of them. She will
grow with these mothers. She will see them crying, pleading abusing and sleeping with
as much as people they can. She may go school and college; where she may be
treated bad, odd and out from children with good societal status. But am sure she will
not cry on the first day at kindergarten. I wish, she may, achieve heights, to touch the
sky, or to land in moon, or to lead a war or to rule a nation. I want the world to eagerly
wait for her live lecture on TV, and she proudly saying to the world,
“Yes, I am a child of prostitute. My mother served the world, the thirsty humans.
But the world ill-treated her, abused her and she taught me to smile at you in return.
She hid her tears from me, from you, for me and she made me grow and live for you.
She is no different from any other mother, but she was restricted in so many ways. Now
I stand in front of you all being the daughter of a prostitute and you are no better than
me, but we are all same.”

I gave that mango juice for Anju but that lady refused and said she drinks only
milk. I played with Anju for a little time. Children are all alike, cute, innocent, lovely and
pure. I didn’t notice that my friends were back and staring at me. I stood up to leave. I
waved at her and she didn’t bother at all. She was a kid; she knew nothing even about
her father. This time it was me, my friends made fun of me. For such deeds the society
where we live always made fun and no worry, again it’s a custom. It is not at all a
feather on the crown of our country, having such places. Still these places are,
forbidden and restricted but, they are not less than ashrams, where the God’s wives
chose to serve the world with relax for a nominal fee for food.

Let’s pray to God,

Before them, After them, Respect by heart,
Every man and every women, for their
Mother, sister and daughter, now pray,
‘May the Lord show his grace on them,
May the human devote the Lord for them.’

The Last Journey

Every star is born; it shines till and more after twilight…

“Arunodhay, beta, get up get up… we need to get down in the next station.” It was Nirmaya, his mother. She is in her late twenties, blonde, slim and charming. Arunodhay is her only son, a very energetic and charismatic boy.He must be studying in upper kindergarten. Last night he was the point of attention of everyone in my compartment. He put laughter on every one of us with his magic wand of cute naughtiness. Tomorrow is his 05th birthday. His family is going to his grandparents to celebrate the birthday.

I was in very deep sleep. I don’t remember when did our journey started but I know we started from the station ‘Horizon of earth’. Other than Arunodhay and his mother, a teacher family and a newly married couple joined me in the same compartment. Mr. and Mrs. Rabindranath Roy had put up their whole life teaching at various colleges. They didn’t have any children, may be that’s why Mrs. Roy was very joyous to see Arunodhay. She gave him chocolates and bought toys from stations. He, though politely thanked them, dumped all those with Nirmaya and continued his prance. At times Mrs. Roy put on some tears and glanced at her husband. Mr. Roy sat emotionless. An uncertain expression of satisfaction for putting up a purposeful life was covering his face all-time.

“Ryan, see him. We need a kid like him na?” Aneeta, the newly married bride. Ryan nodded with a smile and Aneeta held his hands tight. The couple is married a week ago. They left home for celebrating their honeymoon. On the way, they took this train and joined us. It was very nostalgic for me to see them. My wedding days, honeymoon, my wife Priya and our daughter Parineeti, all crossed my eyes in a blink. I work at an oil-rig. Parineeti’s birthday is just a week ahead. It is her first birthday and Priya will kill me if I don’t reach for the celebration.

Train has stopped; every one started walking towards the door. None of them carried any luggage; I looked around but I could not find my luggage too. I ran to the exit in hurry. I need to catch a bus and reach home at the earliest for my daughter’s birthday. I saw none of the people were in hurry like me. Everyone knew where they are going, and moved to the exit of railway station calmly. I saw two buses were standing there. I checked the board of first bus, ‘Hell way roads’, I thought not this. I checked the second bus, ‘Valleys of Heaven’. I was in doubt; but I found all my compartment mates are sitting in the bus. I also climbed and took the seat near to Nirmaya. Arunodhaywas sleeping in her lap.

“Hi, Nirmaya, Arunodhay is a very cute boy.”

“Thank You, Surjay.”

I smiled. But a current passed through me. I didn’t remember my name. I checked my wallet, but it was empty. There was no proof of my identity and no money. I am falling in a dilemma.

“Nirmaya, Where are you going?”

“We all are going together, to Arunodhay’s grandparents.”

“Arunodhay’s grandparents! Why? My daughter Parineeti’s birthday is next week. If I don’t reach in time Priya will fire me. Tell me where your husband is?”

“Surjay you forgot him so soon?”

I forgot him !… how I forgot him? Did I know him? Who is he? Who am I?

Yes. Yes I knew him. Lord! The train journey wasn’t real, though it was real till last night. The train collapsed in dark. We all are dead. Nirmaya’s husband must have survived. Arunodhay is going to his grandparents for celebrating his birthday. I have no identity and no money; I am going back as I came. Mr. Roy’s expression was right. Priya will surely fire me.

My Lord! Wish Parineeti a very happy birthday blessings for me… Tell every kid in this world who lost their parents on behalf of us, that we miss them too… Surprise our kids always with a precious gift… though no gift can hid their tears.

The Confederates – I

The Confederates – I
(A dive inwards)

This one, not surely, may be the most criticized article from my quills. Not necessary for because of the words used or the immoral verses. I guess it will be for the content I am trying to dig out from the black holes. The Confederates, yes they are, surrounds us even in trances, with our will but without our knowledge. Do you feel them around? Yes. You do. Let’s know them.

For sure, every human is in a journey in which he is surrounded and associated with the confederates. Those who hit the aim of the journey are very few, like Gods. Those who hit for sure are not less than the God; for that we say God stays inside us. Do they actually? Don’t know but the confederates are there in everyone, around everyone and all the time. Not less than half the crowd falls down amidst the journey. No surprise, because they have no purpose in view about this life. I am also a being in this breed. The fates of my predecessors are scaring me indeed. These urchins were hated by all; they cursed self and died as street dogs. Men never shed a tear for them. They attained the hell with no regrets. Sadly I too belong to this clan; and I have some confederates. You are one among them!

We are generally called as ‘The Drunkards’. All the way drunken and to drink we travel. The delighted turned divested. We are pessimists, and our substantive state of mind is sadness and fear. We drink seeking the assured happiness that we could never attain. Still we are drinking. We neither have proximities of blood nor do we have the virtual relations called friendships. We drink with drunkards and they are our friends and relatives and everything though till we drink; they are my confederates. Are you one among them? Yes you are because you sit with someone of my confederates or theirs.

We have no purpose in this life. Life is a meaningless word for us like the vanity of quality smoke. Smoke is smoke no better or worse, likewise is life. We have nothing to earn, but we will travel like this till we have anything to lose. We dare to sacrifice the heartbeats and take hearts out when we are drunk. We have no rules and laws. We have freedom and deep emotions only. Dawns are not in our favors but the night-falls are only for us. Our music and poems are world famous. We don’t sleep, we slips into the ecstatic trance at mid-nights or early mornings. We are never hunger but out thirst can never be deprived off.

We don’t seem happy because the assured happiness could not be attained yet by any of us; but we’re trying hard in certain. Our skin fades, our eyes become bloody red and gradually we grow sleazy. We don’t care only. We spit and urinate wherever we feel comfortable. We see every lady undressed and we feel to make love. We run to brothels very often. Some of us grow homo-sexual to attain the ecstasy within reach. I along with you my confederates, are living the life of freedom-fighters; to get freedom from this path.

Many of us tried a diversion. But all ended very close in this way only. Many are still trying, I wish all the very best to them, but also I’ll be waiting here for you again. Many crusaders are imposing rules on us. When they close our one tavern, thousands of houses transforms to one. When they open one, a new
generation of drunkards takes birth. The havoc is spreading deleteriously. Nobody can stop this. What is your trait? Are you?

Your answer follows in IInd part…

The Dead

Last morning, my room was dark. The lines of straws in between my window curtain let the sun rays cut the darkness. The curtain was in my favour. Previous night I was depressed; depressed for no reason; reason was there for me, but it would not a worthy one to get depressed for whom if any listens it. Only I knew the reason and I never wanted to share it, if I share, it will be nothing less than a suicide; worse, suicide ends everything; here I will have to live as dead. I got off my bed and made a cup of tea. It didn’t help at all; I left home.

A glance of a cemetery struck my eyes while my vehicle got a block at traffic. I saw the sleep beds of zapped lives; mounted crosses; names written; stamping that they lived; and now died. The crosses were dug on their heads. They are warned not to get up and leave the place. They were offered a few tears and garlands once in a while. Some dead flowers were gifted to them often. Among them also, some are forgotten forever. But they never complained or they knew none will listen to them, if they want to express their grief. Here they had no choice to choose their bed partner or a neighbor; they have no more choices. The couples were never given a single bed; because we assume they will never make love again. On their wedding we gave a single bouquet, when dead we decided they are separated and we give them two. They are offered, without asking them what exactly they need. The things they loved most in their life are now considered no more necessary and they can never ask. They are now dead.

The mass got over. Some came out of church with some flowers and tears. I know where they will now move to. I felt bad. If I could find someone carrying a bottle of wine or cigarette; or atleast a piece of grilled chicken to the cemetery without prejudging that the dead will not take it. Irreversible! To get what I love after death, I should start loving tears and flowers now itself.

I got back my room. Thought of having lunch, I stepped out to Vasco-da-Gama streets. On the way, I couldn’t find anyone giving flower to any; no one dropped a single tear for any. World have its own rules, strategies, traditions, trends. I stopped in front of The HQ, a star hotel. Why not a lunch here? Will I get privacy? How will the staffs treat me? Will they give me a flower along? No. They will treat me as a guest and I will not get privacy. Neither will they give me a flower. My head got down, I walked further. Then I knew where I should go.

I confess, for loving those things in this life which will be forbidden after death. I feed myself, like every one, everything which I need to live. Am no different from any, achieve and achieve; an every moment repetition. But a glance of the dead crowd made me think different. They also lived the way we live now. One thing they all missed out; they never bought or gifted a flower to themselves. Whatever they made habit of gifting self and staying happy is forgotten with their death. Then they receive what others chose to present. And others, like us, never had a second thought of what was his favorite gift, but always gifted a flower. May be that is why left to church is cemetery and to right is a flower shop.

One day I will also die. I don’t know how I will accept if someone gifts me a rose. I also shouldn’t expect any other gift. But I know whether am dead or alive, I need to be happy. I have to be happy for every tear and flower. I have to make habit of it before I die. By the time of death, my priorities must change. To stay happy forever, my priorities must be a flower or tear. I also may be forgotten! I do not want that, and for that I love people unconditionally though having a very small condition to visit me sometimes. I guess they will love me back even after my death. They will gift me flowers, and I will be happy. Death is inevitable, any time it can happen, without a clue. So soon I have to make the habit. Today I will gift a flower to myself. I will pretend happiness; I will make it a routine, till it becomes my habit; till I find real happiness. Then I will die. I will wait for a mass; I will wait for flowers and garlands. I will smile and I will stay happy after life; after death; till the last person who know me; till his last flower.

I can never be depressed. I change myself for the way you need. Previous night I was depressed with a reason and the reason was why should I live if the death is what is left to meet with at last.

My Wife

Oh dear friend! Last night we made love;
Me and my wife, sweating and rolling.
We kissed the moon; and she murmured,
Something close to her heart, in my ears.

Oh dear friend! Today I bought her chocolates.
She smiled at me and took one; just one.
Her hands were shivering; she gazed at it,
And turned around, and then walked away.

Oh dear friend! Last year she was conceived.
My office phone left an emergency.
I rushed to the hospital, the operation theatre;
Doctor called a name, to say congrats.

Oh dear friend! Every time I lie to my son,
Mummy doesn’t love chocolates.
I said, then, doctor ‘she calls me like this’,
The name she murmured hazily, Yours!

Oh dear friend! I still Love her.
Oh dear friend! I still live for her.

My Myth

Physical pain and pleasure are lessons to be learnt with human body. Love doesnt flow from heart but from soul. Knowledge is not stored in brain but adapted by spirits. The soul and spirit together takes birth as human body to learn lessons for the ultimate salvation. whatever we do and learn is already calculated and inculcated thousands of years ago. The wisdom is to learn to smile in tragedies, compassion in anger, knowing that the happiness doesnt depend on anything but it must be a pre-decided state of mind. Learn to love more when others dont. And live as if this moment is the best of my life and accept death a willful entering to the painless world, the back way to origin.

A Night with Stars

Long back ago, when Leonardo da Vinci put it on canvas, when Icarus flew to the sun with his wax wings, when Ravan kidnapped Sita in his Pushpak Viman and when Santa Claus came in his flying chariot, it was sure that the intensive ambition of man to touch the sky and to hide in clouds was engraved in his soul. Right brothers lite up the torch amidst the darkness on the concept of airworthiness. As it was always a habit of human being to achieve the extremities of possibilities, he never needed to turn back. He crossed the limits of nature and become supernatural by hoisting the flag of victory in The Moon. Moon and stars have always been a long long dream for human, its no more a dream for me. Every stud of ‘The Grass’ and every leaf of ‘The Hash’ or sometimes what my soulmate friends gives me with full of love have taken me to the Moon and Stars. Last night I wrote my name there on the flag of US in moon, and I played Hide & Seek with stars. I owed the wings of Icarus, and flew in night. Stars were too cold, Moon was warm. I slept there, now woke up on earth under the protection of sun.

My Boss

He got only one eye, an eagle eye.
What he sees through that, God even don’t know.

His bones are steel, stainless steel.
How he lives with that, medical science is scary.

He says himself an average, but super-natural for us,
His actions are weird, he too doesn’t know what and when.

He don’t know virus, but he adores anti-virus,
He brings every fortnightly, any new name to me.

He is a diver, sea diver,
He deserves this, a high five.

He comes office early, don’t have anything to do at home,
He holds my neck, every now and then.

He threatens me, and beats me,
He was pardoned, because he is steel.

He challenges me for a marathon, seriously,
He knows, I think, I don’t like to run.

He buys new gadgets, boasts about it,
He was ignored, because I got nothing to do with it.

He advice me as a guardian, every time,
He was heard and forgotten, every time.

He was respected, from my heart,
He was obeyed, always and proudly.

But…

He caught me late, and asked me,
‘Do you think I am a fool sitting here?’

And I say ‘Yes’, as I do always.
Because he is my ‘Boss’, much respected.
